Our goal is
to place individuals in their preferred supported or competitive
employment in the greater community and to support the transition
to greater independence through specialized training, individual
counseling, task analysis, employer support and follow-along.
Since 1980
over 241 Riverside participants have worked in the community at
regular jobs. This number represents a range of employment experiences
from short term (temporary) work in locales utilized as training
sites to full-or part-time competitive work. Of these, 157 persons
have held jobs considered as individual, competitive placements.
These persons worked at a total of 497 jobs. Additionally, several
work crews worked at regular and temporary worksites with an increasing
variety of tasks performed. All community-based workers earn minimum
wage or higher. This represents not only an increase in their earnings,
but also a decrease in public support for individuals who are boosting
their own self-reliance.
